The article is about a brave woman. She broke several records on the flight. She became the first woman to fly the Atlantic solo, the only person to have flown it twice and she established a new transatlantic crossing records of 13 hours and 30 minutes.

2. How did Amelia get Interested in flying? Read aloud the extract which says about it.

In her free time, Amelia enjoyed going to air shows and watching aerial stunts, which were very popular during the 1920s. Her fascination with flying began when, at one of those shows, she took a ten-minute ride, and from that moment on she knew she had to fly. Amelia took on several odd jobs to pay for the flying lessons and after а year, she had saved enough money to buy her own place.

3. What invitation did Amelia receive one day?

One day Amelia received an invitation to be the first woman ever to make the flight across the Atlantic from Canada to Britain. Amelia made the flight in 1928 and although she was only a passenger and two men flew the plane, it made her a celebrity.

We are fed up with various kinds of entertainment. Mass Media add spice to our lives. They make us laugh and cry. As for me I’m not a TV fan. But my parents still watch TV. My mother enjoys watching lifestyle programs, talk shows, soaps, drama and sitcoms. My father prefers news and sports programs. To tell the truth, I’m not really interested in any traditional media. Instead I enjoy using the internet, which unites all media sources nowadays. So I can easily watch the same films or channels online. Besides, sometimes I use the internet for communication with my friends who live far away from me. The Internet is a great source of information and entertainment for many people. I am sure that the internet has changed my life for the better, because it s the easiest and quickest way to stay informed. But there are always those who prefer going to the cinema or reading a good book to surfing the Internet. I can’t live without my mobile phone.
